TV Newsance 321: Delhi blast and how media lost the plot

This week on TV Newsance, we break down the Delhi bomb blast tragedy that claimed 13 lives and injured dozens near the Red Fort, one of the busiest, most crowded pockets of Old Delhi. Newslaundry reporters hit the ground an hour later to talk to eyewitnesses and assess the situation on ground. Among the victims were a pharmacist, two childhood friends, a young Uber driver, and a teenager who supported an entire family. 

Their stories deserved sensitivity. Instead, the media turned the tragedy into a spectacle. From picking up things that could be evidence on the ground, zeroing in on a mandir to show Hindus were the target, hosting shouting matches, to telling conspiracy theories – Godi media became its worst version during the gravest tragedy. And if this was not enough, Godi channels came up with puns like “Doctors of Doom” and “MBBS Jihad”.

In all this noise, what was lost, as usual, was accountability from the government. How has another terror attack taken place when it has been just six months since the Pahalgam attack?
