Why the CEO of a news website wants you to stop reading the news

Switch off, logout and live a little!

We at Newslaundry have had a fantastic 2025 – the FIRs, legal notices, and court cases notwithstanding. Today, I do believe we have wayyyy more to be grateful for than to complain about, with our friends, family, subscribers, well-wishers and more.

Happy holidays! Some say this is the time to reflect and assess the past year and all that stuff. I say it’s time to switch off and enjoy yourself. Relax! Switch off from the news. Yes, I, the CEO of Newslaundry, whose livelihood depends on people consuming the news, is asking you to do just that.

The thing is, the news can often make you feel like everything is so wrong with the world. And yes, very much is. But there’s also so much to look forward to and so much to live for. That can only be appreciated if you switch off. Because if you work 14 or 16 or 18 hours a day (or whatever the going number is) 12 months of the year and take no time off, even if you don’t think you need it – you’re a poorer person for it.

And as you step away from your desk, do your final good deed for 2025. Buy a subscription to Newslaundry. Journalism doesn’t go on holiday so we’ll be around and hold down the fort while you rejuvenate. And then we’ll be stronger together to tackle everything that comes our way next year.

Done? Great! Now take a walk. Smell the roses or lilies or mallipoo. Spend time with those you love and just think of all that is good and right with the world. It’s a fantastic way to start 2026. Hope it’s your best yet.

Thank you for your support. May God give you all that you desire. Happy holidays, happy new year, and all things happy.
