Hafta letters: CJP protest, trans representation, Instagram and anti-incumbency

Rinchen is right; the issue is that trans people are rarely brought into these discussions. But neither are doctors (psychiatrists or endocrinologists who understand transness medically). I’m not implying identity is medical, but healthcare professionals have a role.

With Navatrilova, she has also been against trans girls in school sports. They haven’t gone through male puberty; what’s the excuse here? And she’s been unhappy that she’s been “jettisoned by the LGBTQ community.” Like—ma’am, actions have consequences. You’re not owed love from a community towards which you’re unreasonable.

The CJP protest really seems to have given a boost to the Opposition, and I'd assume a similar boost to independent media. I'm curious if NL has seen a rise in subscriptions/engagement post-CJP, or if there are any plans to harness that CJP engagement? Also a question for the panel: What is the likelihood that Delhi Air Pollution would be the next big political movement, and is there anything NL can do with its Air Pollution campaign?

Hi NL Team, I've been a subscriber to TNM-NL for the last two years and love the work that you do; the weekly podcasts are my favourite.  

I usually find the Hafta YouTube link on the podcast page on the NL site. However, I couldn't see it in this week’s edition. Can you let me know where I can find the YouTube link? (I prefer listening/watching it on YouTube rather than on the NL app or other platforms.)

I was wondering if you could email the link to all subscribers as an alternative, or if there's another solution, since I know it is behind the paywall.

Love the work you guys do! You are my weekly dose of sanity in this insane world of noise.

Two quick thoughts. 

While I agree that Instagram played a huge role in the protests we saw play out, do you think this could also be attributed to the BJP not paying enough attention to Instagram as a medium — a point I’ve heard discussed on both Hafta and Charcha? Or was it simply a case of people and the populace tiring of incumbency? After all, the curse of incumbency is real.

I also second Abhinandan’s suggestion for a detailed panel on China. Geopolitical dynamics are shifting rapidly, while China is simultaneously emerging as a major power and grappling with weaker consumer spending. I’d love to hear your panel’s take on where China stands today and what the next generation of global superpower blocs might look like.
