CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke released on bail; told to sign a one-year peace bond
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, who was placed under preventive arrest by the Delhi Police on October 16, was released on bail today following an order by a special executive magistrate in Delhi, according to LiveLaw.
Dipke was detained that evening as he tried to make his way to Connaught Place to participate in the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest called by the CJP at Central Park.
The conditions of his bail are not yet clear, but according to LiveLaw, he has been asked to sign a peace bond requiring him to maintain peace and public tranquillity for a year, as stated under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). Section 126 empowers an executive magistrate to take preventive action against anyone likely to cause a breach of the peace or a public disturbance.
According to the police, they initiated action under Sections 126 and 170 (preventive arrest without a warrant or a magistrate’s order) of the BNSS against Dipke. Neha Bora, who was also detained that evening while she was marching from Mandi House, was released earlier today.
Meanwhile, other CJP activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remain in judicial custody. Delhi Police detained and then arrested them after they tried to enter the Jantar Mantar area on October 13, according to Bar and Bench.
