Gurugram gets the Ravish Kumar treatment

Just what is NDTV’s Ravish Kumar eating for breakfast? Earlier today, on his Soundcloud channel, Kumar put up a new edition of what he calls Drerit Kavya. The objective of this particular brand of poetry is to turn listeners into lily-livered wimps, says Kumar. Why? Because the more darpok you are, the less you’re likely to speak, which means less noise pollution. Irshaad.

The inspiration for this latest burst of spoken word poetry by Kumar is the announcement that Gurgaon is to henceforth be known asGurugram. While discussing the merits of this name change, Kumar tucks in some satire, a little mythology, a lot of mischief and a pinch of snark. Here’s a glimpse:

“Gaon bahut the
Magar guru na tha
Guruon ka saara jahaan
Magar ek gram na tha
Gurgaon dikh gaya
Jiska koi kaam na tha.”

Also, a few key facts about India and China:

“Bharat kabhi pracheen tha
Cheen se pehle Pra tha
Pra ke baad Cheen tha”

He also notes a key detail about Gurgaon, sorry Gurugram, real estate:

“Ek apartment ka naam
Shastron mein nahin milta
Kahin Malibu hai
Toh kahin DLF dikhta hai
A B C D E F hai
Par Ka Kha Ga Gha nahin dikta tha
Kisi ka kisi ko toh correct karna tha
Tedhe-medhe naam ko perfect karna tha.”

He ends with an appeal that we can definitely support:

“Note:
Har baat ka virodh na karein
Har virodh ka samarthan karein.”
