A song for Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha
It seems like no matter what the issue is, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party members need an opportunity to plug Amma and the great revolutionary leader, or as they call him, Puratchi Thalaivar MG Ramachandran. Today when the Rajya Sabha was debating Kashmir, AIADMK Member of Parliament A Navaneethakrishnan began his speech with a song from MGR’s movie, Idhaya Veenai. The song is predictably on Kashmir and how beautiful and wonderful it is. The Speaker of the House was evidently happy with this little song recital and asked him to “cite it in full”. The MP then elaborated on the fact that Tamil films that are shot in Kashmir become popular in Tamil Nadu. He followed that up by stating that every pregnant woman in Tamil Nadu is given saffron from Kashmir in hope of a beautiful child.
You can watch his speech here:
More fun, though, is MGR’s ‘beautiful Kashmir’ song from the 1972 movie.
Now, hoping for someone to break into Kishore Kumar’s ‘Kitni Khoobsurat Yeh Tasveer Hai, Yeh Kashmir Hai’.
