All aboard PIA flight confirmed dead in crash, including former musician Junaid Jamshed
A Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-661 flying from Chitral to Islamabad crashed near the town of Havelian, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday afternoon. All 47 passengers on board – including two infants and three foreigners – have been confirmed dead by Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), making it Pakistan’s deadliest air crash in four years.
The ATR-42 aircraft may have suffered a failure in one of its two turboprop engines just before the crash, according to airline chairman Muhammad Azam Saigol. An investigation is underway to confirm the cause of the crash.
Among the dead is Junaid Jamshed, a musician who rose to fame in the 1990s and later became a member of the Islamic evangelist group Tableeghi Jamaat in 2001. His wife was also on board with him. Condolences for Jamshed and other victims of the crash poured in on Twitter.
