Mumbai woman approaches SC seeking ban on porn websites as her husband is addicted to them

In what could be described as ‘WTF-news-of-the-day’, a Mumbai woman has approached the Supreme Court seeking a ban on pornographic websites as they have “ruined” her matrimonial life. In her petition, the woman said that she had been happily married for 30 years but since 2015, her husband had been addicted to pornographic websites which “perverted” his mind, causing her and her children “suffering”.

Being a social worker, she had “come across people who have been adversely affected because of free and easy availability of porn contents all over the internet”, she said. Moreover, easy access to pornographic websites is causing “immense damage to family values in India”. She wondered that if her husband, who is in his “advancing years”, can go “astray” due to porn addiction, “imagine what this addiction can do to the innocent minds of youth and children”.

To prevent the moral corruption of the youth, she pleaded before the apex court to direct the Central government to ban such websites.

The Supreme Court had asked the Centre to block all child pornography websites in March last year and had told the government that technical difficulty in banning such sites would not be accepted as a ground for non-compliance of its order.
