ABVP office bearers reply to the allegations of assault in Ramjas on FB Live
North Campus continues to be tense after a literary seminar, the Cultures of Protest at Delhi University’s Ramjas College was cancelled on February 21 after a violent protest by ABVP supporters. The organisers had invited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) research scholar Umar Khalid to present a paper on Bastar. ABVP members believe that Khalid cannot be invited to Delhi University in light of the charges of sedition against him.
The next day, those who attended the protest march against the ABVP, led by the All India Students’ Association (AISA), were attacked, allegedly by ABVP members. Several teachers, students and even journalists covering the protest were assaulted.
As the Delhi Police is yet to file separate first information reports based on individual testimonies, Chhawri and Awana respond to the allegations against their party members.
They maintain that “left wing” students were responsible for the mayhem, and Awana goes on to accuse the media of presenting a biased view.
