Women In The Newsroom: ‘Let There Be More Solidarity’
Newslaundry Editor-in-Chief Madhu Trehan, Managing Editor Deepanjana Pal and Associate Editor Manisha Pande along with independent journalist Neha Dixit get together on Women’s Day to discuss the challenges women journalists face in the newsroom. While Dixit points out that March 8 has now become something like a “karva chauth”, she details her experience as a woman negotiating the news world. Does your gender influence reportage? Are women journalists only allotted ‘soft’ stories? Is there a pay parity problem in Indian journalism? Dixit along with our panellists dwell on all this and more. All agree that there needs to be more solidarity among women and Trehan signs off with the hope of seeing a woman head a news channel or a newspaper in 2017.
