Bihar BJP vice-president slapped by MLA for inappropriately touching his wife
While Bharat Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh is trying to curb eve-teasing and sexual harassment through its Anti-Romeo Squad, the Bihar assembly incident has left its members red faced.
On Wednesday, Bihar BJP vice-president Lalbabu Prasad was slapped by BJP legislator Niraj Kumar Singh ‘Bablu’ after his wife complained that Prasad has touched her “inappropriately.”
A day after the incident, BJP state president Nityanand Rai has confirmed that Prasad was dropped from the newly constituted state committee. However, the party is yet to receive any formal complaint.
Lok Jansakti Party member of legislative council (MLC) Nutan Singh told her husband that BJP vice-president and MLC Prasad has “patted” her – on the way to the Legislative Council. Chhatapur BJP MLA Singh slapped Prasad in the aisle between the Vidhan Parishad and Vidhan Sabha. Reportedly, several other BJP leaders present on the spot tried to control the situation.
MLA Singh told the Indian Express, “Halka fulka kuchh hua tha, jise humne aapas me suljha liya (There was a minor issue which we have sorted out).”
Meanwhile, Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav termed the incident as a “black day in the history of Vidhan Mandal.” In a series of tweets, Yadav attacked BJP for not taking quick and stern action against Prasad.
He also took on the media for not covering the incident properly.
