Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy tweets, ‘the Hindu-Muslim problem won’t be solved without a Civil War’

In a fresh controversy, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy tweeted a diary entry by Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee which stated, “the Hindu-Muslim problem won’t be solved without a Civil War”.

Facing sharp criticism on social media, Roy tweeted that a “couple of dozen dimwits” trolled him for “advocating” a civil war and that he was merely “quoting, not advocating”.

He also clarified the controversial tweet.

Roy’s tweets have created controversies in the past as well. In an earlier tweet, Roy had posted a photograph of a banner attributing it to “Shyampur Masjid Committee and the residents” and wrote that “see this notice. It says “All music forbidden. Violators will call forth penalties.” Not ISIS. Not Taliban, not Saudi. But West Bengal, India”.

In August 2015, in one of his tweets, he described people who had attended Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon’s funeral as “potential terrorists” and said, “they ought to be kept under surveillance.”

The governor did not respond to phone calls, email or text messages, according to the Indian Express.
