Students protest against on-campus sexual harassment at Jadavpur University
Women Against Sexual Harassment (WASH) is a forum created in collaboration with students of Jadavpur University (JU) and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). It was created to show solidarity with women who are harassed. Ekabali Ghosh and Kunjila Mascillamani, students at JU and SRFTI respectively, had filed reports of sexual harassment with their respective university’s Internal Complaint Committee (ICC). July 3 marks the 90-day deadline for the ICC of Jadavpur University to deliver a verdict in the matter.
In the absence of a response from from both the universities, members of WASH gathered at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, to fight against ICC’s lackadaisical approach towards cases of sexual harassment. The protest was led by Ghosh and Mascillamani, who marched to the Vice-chancellor’s office in Aurobindo Bhavan. Through the rally one simple question was raised: What can we possibly do now to get justice?
