Photo essay: Massive protest in Delhi seeking justice for Gauri Lankesh’s murder
A month after Gauri Lankesh was assassinated, the Gauri Lankesh Hathya Virodhi Vedike (forum against the assassination of Gauri Lankesh) called for a massive protest rally today. Several protests have taken place ever since the murder of Lankesh, mostly organised by journalists and the Press Club of India. However, today’s protests mostly saw political outfits, trade unions, students unions, teachers’ unions and women’s organisations.
While a lot has been said about Lankesh’s assassination and the subsequent threats to journalists, this time, a lot of naarebaazi could be heard against the current dispensation, like , “Gauri hum sharminda hain, tere kaatil zinda hai.” The rally began from Mandi House and culminated at Jantar Mantar where everyone gathered and read out an appeal to bring justice to the assassinations of Lankesh, Govind Pansare, MM Kalburgi and Narendra Dabholkar. The appeal sought an “impartial” investigation and to focus on the “most probable killers” of Lankesh.
