NL Sena
Session with NL Sena – Episode 02
Have you read the NL Sena stories? Now find out what went into writing these stories.
Last year, we started the NL Sena initiative, where you, our readers and subscribers, help us to do stories that are important, expensive and deserve to be told.
With the help of contributors, we were able to travel to different districts of Kerala including the hotbed, Kannur district, that too, without the pressure of toeing any party’s line. Your support has helped us cover the deadly battle between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) parent organisation, and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI(M)), which has already claimed hundreds of lives.
While first three parts of the series make up for a detailed report on the political killings in Kerala, the final part of the series deep dives into how the southernmost district of Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada, has been transformed into a laboratory of communal hatred by Hindu and Muslim fringe groups.
In Session with NL Sena, our contributors spoke to Amit Bhardwaj, the reporter who covered the project. They discussed the process of reporting, shared why they decided to fund this project and their feedback for future projects.
Newslaundry is indebted to all NL Sena contributors for their generous support. Also, those who missed out on contributing the last time (or couldn’t be bothered!), we hope our efforts will persuade you to fund these two new projects and help keep news unafraid and independent.
