After Padmaavat, offended Brahmin outfit threatens stir over #Manikarnika in Rajasthan

A little-known right-wing fringe outfit, Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha, is now planning to hold Bollywood and Rajasthan hostage, apparently having seen the recent success of the Karni Sena, which managed to vandalise cinema halls, threaten states and the common public and defy the Supreme Court over the release of the film Padmaavat.

This time the movie giving offence to the Brahmin group is the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Manikarnika.

On Monday, the Mahasabha’s state president, Suresh Mishra, asked the Rajasthan government to immediately stop the shooting of the film “to ensure that historical facts were not distorted in the epic biographical film about Rani Laxmibai”, The Times of India reported.

The outfit, at a press conference, threatened to escalate its agitation if the state didn’t comply with its demand in three days – “the government must ensure nothing controversial is shown in the film. It should get an undertaking from the producers so that the issue doesn’t blow up like Padmaavat”, Mishra reportedly said.

Recently, BJP governed states were charged with failing to stop the Karni Sena agitators.

“Our sources have told us the filmmakers are shooting for a love song in which Rani Laxmibai is seen with a British agent of the East India Company. We suspect the producers are making the film based on the controversial book Rani written by Jaishree Misra,” Mishra was quoted as saying.
