Cricketer Shami charged with attempt to murder, domestic violence
The Kolkata Police on Friday afternoon booked cricketer Mohammad Shami under multiple non-bailable charges, including attempt to murder and domestic violence. This was after his wife Hasin Jahan registered a complaint in the matter.
The FIR against Shami and his family members also mentions criminal intimidation. Shami’s brother, Hasib Ahmad, who Jahan claims raped her at her in-laws’ place in Uttar Pradesh last year, has been charged under IPC section 376 pertaining to rape.
Jahan on Tuesday put up a Facebook post exposing her husband’s extra-marital affairs through multiple screenshots and accused him of domestic violence.
ANI later tweeted her as saying that the social networking site had blocked her account and deleted all posts.
Mohammad Shami has denied all allegations and called it a ploy to ruin his career. “What is being said about my personal life is completely false. It’s definitely part of a big conspiracy against me. This is just an attempt to defame me,” he tweeted.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has put the cricketer’s contract on hold after Jahan’s allegations came to light on Tuesday.
