Sunanda Pushkar case: Sufficient material to prove cruelty charges against Tharoor, claims prosecution
A Delhi court on Monday reserved its order on a charge sheet filed against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case. Pushkar, Tharoor’s wife, was found dead in the suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi in January 2014.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal reserved the order for June 5, after the prosecution presented its arguments.
The prosecution counsel stated that there was enough evidence to summon Tharoor, the only accused named in the 3000-word charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police on May 14. The prosecutor also stated that the evidence was sufficient to “prove the charges of subjecting Pushkar to cruelty and thereby abetting her to commit suicide,” The Hindu reported.
The Congress leader has been charged under Sections 498A and 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
