NDTV suspends deputy news editor, AMU suspends student for social media comments on #PulwamaAttack

NDTV today suspended its deputy news editor for posting something about the “tragic and dastardly Pulwama terror attack” on her personal Facebook page. The media house also said it “strongly condemned” her action.

The deputy news editor had posted the following:

#HowstheJaish is a parody of the slogan #HowsTheJosh from the movie Uri: The Surgical Strike.

In a similar instance, Aligarh Muslim University suspended one of its students for tweeting “highly objectionable comments on social media against our martyr soldiers” in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack. The mathematics student had posted “How’s the Jaish? Great Sir #Kashmir” on Twitter. He has also been booked under Section 153A of the IPC and Section 67A of the IT Act.

AMU said the student was suspended as he had committed “acts of indiscipline and misconduct” under sections of its AMU Students’ Conduct & Discipline Rules, 1985.

At least 49 CRPF personnel were killed in yesterday’s attack.
