UP youth booked for sharing tweet posted from fake account of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman 

The Uttar Pradesh police authorities registered a case against an Azamgarh youth on Monday for reposting and circulating a post which originated from a fake Twitter handle created in the name of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, reported Hindustan Times. 

The tweet in question praised Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, and the complaint about the fake profile was lodged by Avkush Singh, a resident of Azamgarh, on Saturday.

According to the police authorities, someone had created a fake Twitter account in Abhinandan’s name, and the tweet praising Imran Khan had originated from this handle.

“A senior police officer said intelligence agencies and the cyber cell joined the police in probing the matter. The probe revealed there was a fake account in the name of the wing commander and a post praising the Pakistan PM was tweeted from it.”

The probe further revealed that one Ankur Arya had taken a screenshot of the tweet and posted it on his Facebook page. Following the probe, the police sent an application to Twitter for shutting down the fake account.

Inspector Vinay Kumar Mishra said a case was registered against Ankur Arya as well as an unidentified person under the relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act following a complaint regarding the fake account. He also said that steps had already been taken for closing the fake Twitter account.
