‘Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi’: Congress’ Priyanka Chaturvedi on Smriti Irani’s affidavit
A row kicked up after Union Minister Smriti Irani filed her nomination for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In her affidavit, Irani, who is contesting against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, said she passed secondary school examination in 1991 and senior secondary school examination in 1993.
She declared she did not complete her Bachelor of Commerce from Delhi University’s School of Open Learning in 1994.
Following this, the Congress party came up with a version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahun Thi, a show where Irani had played a lead role. Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday said: “A new serial is going to come which is titled Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi (because minister was a graduate once upon a time).”
Suggesting an opening line for the show, she added: “Qualifications ke bhi roop badalte hain, naye-naye sanche mein dhalte hain, ek degree aati hai, ek degree jaati hai, bante affidavit naye hain.”
In her affidavit for the 2014 polls, Irani had said that she graduated from the university in 1994.
