Modi’s swearing-in: Bollywood attendees including Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor wax lyrical

One may believe that Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi will be the biggest star at his own swearing-in ceremony, but that does not mean that he’s going to be the only star. Rajinikanth, Kangana Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Karan Johar will be attending PM-elect Modi’s oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi today.

“Best wishes to Prime Minister. Hope he will be able to do everything with ease and grace,” Kangana Ranaut told the media yesterday. “There are a lot of expectations associated with him … My support is always with him, but he is a Prime Minister who is loved and supported by the entire nation. His win is entirely (a result of) his own hard work. We can only appreciate him. So congratulations to him.”

Renowned filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will be in attendance too. “Today, the honourable Prime Minister and his cabinet will take an oath to serve our country. I am humbled to be a part of this historic moment. The question is not what we expect from them. The question is what each Indian will do for their Motherland,” Mehra said, rephrasing former US President John F. Kennedy.

Actor Anil Kapoor posted a picture with actor Anupam Kher and also quoted former US President (and actor) Ronald Reagan. The two will be attending the swearing-in.

Producers Guild of India President Siddharth Roy Kapur will also attend the ceremony, as will megastar Rajinikanth who called Modi a “charismatic leader”.

Surprise absentees include actor Akshay Kumar (he of the “non-political conversation” fame), who is reportedly out of the country. So is Hrithik Roshan and longtime BJP critic Aamir Khan. Salman Khan, who was among Modi’s earliest endorsers, won’t be able to attend as he is not in the best of health, reported IANS.
