Karnataka journalist 'attacked' while reporting on illegal cow slaughter: India Today
An "angry mob" in Karnataka's Hassan district attacked a journalist after she reported on illegal cow slaughters in the area, India Today reported yesterday.
According to the report, the journalist, who was unnamed, was attempting to visit "four illegal slaughterhouses and five cattle hoarding spots" in the district, accompanied by "animal lovers and police officials".
The report said: "As they tried to open the illegal slaughter houses to rescue the animals, an angry mob gathered around the woman journalist. It is alleged that the mob abused and manhandled her, and threatened her with dire consequences if she didn't leave the place at once." The report noted that the police registered an FIR in the matter at Arasikere Town police station.
Just last week, Karnataka's animal husbandry minister said an anti-cow slaughter bill will be introduced during the winter session of the state legislature.
Last year, an India Today reporter was "thrashed" and "pelted with stones" while reporting on an illegal slaughterhouse in Karnataka's Ramnagar district.
