Manipur: Journalists extend strike after grenade attack on local newspaper office

Journalists in Manipur have been on an indefinite strike since Sunday after a grenade attack on the office of a vernacular newspaper, Poknapham. According to the Hindu, the strike was extended last evening by 48 hours.

All cable networks have been blanked out, the report added, and no newspapers are being circulated since all media organisations are participating in the strike.

The grenade was lobbed at Poknapham's office in Imphal West by unidentified miscreants at 6.30 pm on Saturday, Scroll reported. Northeast Now quoted the paper's editor Robindro Sharma as saying they had not received threats prior to the attack. The grenade did not explode.

According to Scroll, the strike was called by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and the Editors Guild of Manipur.
