UP Covid Disaster
Why Gorakhpur's largest hospital is turning away Covid patients
Following up on SOS messages put out on Twitter, Newslaundry visited two private hospitals in Gorakhpur as well as the BRD Medical College, the city's largest medical facility, and found that they were running out of medical oxygen and even essential medicines.
At the BRD Medical College, so heavy is the rush of Covid patients and so limited the capacity and resources that there's always a queue of families waiting for a bed. Apart from Gorakhpur, a good number of patients come from the neighbouring Deoria and Kushinagar districts, but few get admitted.
