NL webinar: How do drugs and vaccines combat Covid?
To discuss Covid vaccines, their effectiveness, and the nuances of Covid treatments, Newslaundry’s Jayashree Arunachalam is joined by Dr Gagandeep Kang, a virologist and professor at Christian Medical College.
On breakthrough infections and the efficacy of vaccines in these cases, Dr Kang emphasises that the “likelihood is high that we have reasonable protection”. She cautions against using anecdotes to draw conclusions, saying, “One of the issues with India is that it lacks clinical data. Everything we have is anecdotal.”
Dr Kang also talks about the scientific and public health aspects of available treatments, the longevity of vaccines, and other misconceptions around Covid. The conversation includes the role of the media in health and science reporting.
