Karnataka minister to direct officials to take action against those who 'assaulted' journalist in Mysuru

Karnataka home minister Araga Jnanendra informed the state assembly on Wednesday that officials will be directed to take action against those involved in the alleged assault on a journalist from an Urdu daily in Mysuru, Indian Express reported.

The issue had been raised by Tanveer Sait, the Congress MLA from Narasimharaja, during zero hour. Sait described the assault as a "mob lynching like incident" and urged the government to take action.

The journalist in question is Mohammed Safdar Kaiser, who works with Daily Kausar. On September 16, Kaiser had been reporting on a protest against the demolition of a temple in Nanjangud. He was recording the speech of Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Jagadish Karanth at the protest site when protesters allegedly asked him to delete the video. A group of people then allegedly assaulted him.

Kaiser later approached the police to file a complaint and demanded that action be taken against those who assaulted him.
