TV Newsance 162: Hindu Khatre Main Hain and News18’s ‘hate news’ programming
This week, entertainment got closer to news with Bigg Boss hosting a "reporting" competition with news editors from ABP News and Aaj Tak playing judge under the watchful eye of Salman Khan. Rakhi Sawant gave anchors a run for their money.
Meanwhile, the BJP announced Yogi Adityanath's candidature from Gorakhpur and that brought back fond memories of when TV anchors were giving us scoops on how Yogi would contest from Varanasi. The flavour of the week was once again "Hindu Khatre Main Hain" with with Arnab Goswami thundering at the possibility of a "Hindu genocide". Primetime discussions this week focused on a speech by Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, after Sambit Patra’s press conference. While many of these anchors were silent on the Hardiwar Dharam Sansad, they have woken up to Khan’s “hate speech” to question who else but secularists and liberals.
News18’s Aman Chopra continued his journey into the sinkhole of hate news. Which prompts us to ask some questions to Mukesh Ambani.
