Reporters Without Orders Ep 259: Tax survey on BBC, Gauri Lankesh’s murder
This week, host Tanishka Sodhi is joined by Newslaundry’s Shivnarayan Rajpurohit and freelance award-winning journalist Srishti Jaswal.
The discussion begins with Shiv’s report on the surveys at BBC offices in India. They talk about the reasons behind the survey and what could possibly come out of it. Shiv also talks about the experience on the ground and the media coverage on the subject.
The discussion then moves on to Srishti's story which is the first part of a large investigation by international organisation Forbidden Stories on the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh. Discussing a 2012 video by Lankesh that was linked to her death, Srishti explains how parts of the speech were taken out of context, and why it is a perfect example of how the Hindu far-right functions in India.
The panel then talks about online harassment faced by female journalists and how it is not taken seriously.
