Roys’ new innings after NDTV exit: 'Green tech' firm, ‘2 books’

Less than two months after they quit the board of NDTV’s promoter group as directors amid the Gautam Adani takeover, the channel’s former owners Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy founded Ikroya Tech – a company focussed on technology development and data analysis.

The firm will work across sectors like environment protection and reduction of pollution, according to company filings seen by Newslaundry. Ikroya’s work will also include establishing and subsidising research laboratories and experimental workshops, to promote research and to award scholarships, grants, and prizes for investigations.

The first board meeting of the company, which is aimed at a global reach, took place on January 18. Its share capital is Rs 10,00,000, divided into 1,00,000 equity shares of Rs 10 each. It is a 50-50 partnership between Prannoy and Radhika Roy, who have been issued 50,000 shares each.

While Ikroya Tech Private Limited was incorporated in January, Ikroya.com LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) came into existence in the last week of February. 

The Roys, meanwhile, are also planning two books, on Indian elections and the media, sources told Newslaundry.

They had resigned as directors of the board of NDTV’s promoter RRPR on November 29 last year. A month later, soon after the Adani Group became the largest shareholder in NDTV, Roys sold 27.26 percent of their remaining 32.26 percent to the conglomerate. 

Their exit from NDTV was followed by a spate of resignations from the top management, such as the company’s group president Suparna Singh, chief strategy officer Arijit Chatterjee, chief technology and product officer Kawaljit Bedi, as well as top anchors such as Ravish Kumar, Sreenivasan Jain and Nidhi Razdan.
