FoE Con 2023: The courtroom in cinema: The real, the fake, and the silver linings
On April 1, Newslaundry and the Internet Freedom Foundation hosted FoE Con 2023, a forum that brought together media personalities and leading voices in the legal sphere to map the media and regulatory framework in contemporary India.
The session “Tareekh pe taareekh” was moderated by Atul Chaurasia, who was joined by director Shefali Bhushan, and Kaushik Moitra, a partner at law firm Bharucha and Partners.
The panel discussed the hurdles towards a realistic depiction of the judiciary on screen and the pressure on the entertainment industry to make such content dramatic. They also cited some fresh examples to suggest the possibility of a change in tide, and the need to make content that is not just entertaining but intellectually stimulating.
