Explained: What to expect this monsoon session of Parliament
Manipur is reeling under continued ethnic violence, the BJP has renewed its push for the Uniform Civil Code, and 26 opposition parties have united under the banner of INDIA to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll. All this as the Parliament commences its monsoon session.
Starting today, the session concludes on August 11. It will address the tumultuous violence in Manipur and the ongoing Delhi ordinance controversy, and dissect at least 21 new Bills. Among these bills, the one that stands out is Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023. It seeks to introduce significant overhaul in laws across sectors, including agriculture, environment and media.
Meanwhile, issues such as the Delhi Ordinance and the Uniform Civil Code promise to ignite intense discussions – with outcomes reverberating across the political landscape.
