Modi Report Card, Ep 3: The rise in hate speech
From conspiracy theories like ‘love jihad’ to direct calls for attacks against minorities, the 10 years of the Narendra Modi government have witnessed the Hindutva hate speech factory working overtime. This has also seen a rise in VIP hate speech amid accusations that the Indian state hasn’t done enough to rein in the culprits. The Supreme Court had earlier directed the police to register suo motu cases and not wait for complaints. But that hasn’t changed much on the ground.
