In the first budget of the BJP-led NDA government, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s 1 hour 23 minutes long speech focused on agriculture, employment, and infrastructure.
From paid internships to one crore youth to increased credit under the Mudra loan for small industries, the emphasis was largely on employment. The other highlights were funds allocation for housing for the urban poor and the middle class, higher tax rate for capital gain, and the rejigged income tax regime.
