Prime suspect in Mukesh Chandrakar murder case arrested
The prime suspect in the murder of Bastar journalist Mukesh Chandrakar has been arrested in Hyderabad.
Suresh Chandrakar, a distant relative of the journalist and a contractor, had been missing since Chandrakar’s reported death last week. He was hiding at his driver’s home, police said, according to NDTV.
Suresh Chandrakar’s wife has also been taken into custody in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district and is being interrogated, officials added. Suresh Chandrakar’s brothers Ritesh Chandrakar and Dinesh Chandrakar and supervisor Mahendra Ramteke have already been arrested in the case, officials earlier told PTI.
According to a post mortem report, Mukesh Chandrakar was attacked with a heavy object and suffered severe injuries to his head, chest, back, and stomach. His body was identified through a tattoo on his hand.
Mukesh Chandrakar ran a YouTube channel called Bastar Junction and had previously worked on reports for several media houses. His brother had reportedly filed a missing person complaint on Thursday.
