Subsidies, unkept promises: Who has the inside track with Delhi’s auto drivers?

Be it 2013, 2015 or 2020. Autorickshaw drivers in Delhi have openly thrown their weight behind the Aam Aadmi Party in three consecutive elections, and the Arvind Kejriwal government has also been seen taking decisions favouring the group.

The bonhomie may not stay the same though. Because this time, the BJP seems to be competing with the AAP in attempts to woo the capital’s auto drivers. Earlier this month, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw accepted the demand for a lower parking fee for auto drivers at Delhi’s railway stations. The decision came after a letter from the Delhi Autorickshaw Sangh.

There have been several other demands and promises, ranging from housing to fuel transition subsidies. But what’s on the mind of Delhi’s auto drivers ahead of the election this time?
