Let Me Explain with Mohammed Zubair: How to spot fake news on India-Pakistan
In times of war and conflict, when tensions flare, our instinct is to turn to social media for real-time updates and context. But when there’s another kind of warfare at play – one involving information and narratives – it becomes more important than ever to be aware of the misinformation flooding us.
For instance, many social media handles from Pakistan posted visuals of an attack and claimed it was Pakistan’s army attacking an Indian military colony. But the truth was that the video pre-dated the Pahalgam attack and is suspected to be from Indonesia. Another video purported to show Pakistan attacking Srinagar airport. It turned out to be from 2024.
Yet these lies don’t just travel fast on social media, they go viral.
So on this special episode of Let Me Explain, we have a special guest – fact-checker and Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair. He explains the kind of misinformation we’re seeing now and how you can differentiate between what’s true and what’s not.
