Rajdeep Sardesai moves HC over Shazia Ilmi defamation case order
Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai on Friday filed an appeal before the Delhi High Court challenging a single judge’s order, which directed him to take down an allegedly defamatory video clip showing an altercation between BJP leader Shazia Ilmi and an India Today journalist.
According to Bar and Bench, an April 4 order had held that such a video recording violated Ilmi’s right to privacy and cannot remain online. The judge confirmed an interim order passed in August 2024. The court also imposed Rs 25,000 as costs on Ilmi for suppressing certain tweets.
The order had come after a defamation suit filed by Ilmi against Sardesai and the India Today video journalist.
A division bench comprising Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Renu Bhatnagar decided to hear the appeal in the first week of July as Friday is the last working day before summer break, according to LiveLaw.
