TV Newsance 303: Israel, Iran and insanity on TV news
This week, as Iran and Israel bombed each other, TV news anchors declared ‘World War 3’. Our TV screens were lit up with cutting edge graphics of imaginary fighter jets and nuclear sites, and messages conveyed in dangerous-looking fonts.
As most channels were making up facts and comments by world leaders, Arnab Goswami found time to mock an Iranian news anchor fleeing as her studio was attacked.
In other news, PM Modi – who faced Donald Trump and showed him who was boss – was once again portrayed as the star on the international stage by our media.
Our anchors continued their grand tradition of completely ignoring India’s historical relations with the two countries, and uncritically supporting Israel in this conflict. Of course, no coverage of an international issue is complete without bringing in Pakistan.
