Losses, employees hit: Tracing the Kanwar Yatra violence impact on food outlets
The Kanwar Yatra this year saw several instances of violence and chaos. From hotels being asked to display owner details to viral videos showing vehicles vandalised and bystanders assaulted.
The administrative response? In the name of safety and crowd control, several hotels and food outlets along the yatra route were issued notices. Many of them between Delhi and UP’s Gajraula were forced to shut down temporarily.
We travelled along NH-9 to understand the financial toll on local businesses. More than a dozen traders linked to 12 outlets say they incurred losses to the tune of nearly Rs 3.25 crore over a month. They said employees have been affected too.
And these are only the losses we could document. The real picture, hoteliers say, is much worse.
