Delhi court orders probe against Navika Kumar in defamation case by Arnab firm

A Delhi court has directed the police to investigate Times Now Group editor-in-chief Navika Kumar in connection with a defamation case filed by Arnab Goswami’s ARG Outlier Media Private Limited, Bar and Bench reported.

Posting a LiveLaw tweet about the court’s decision, Republic’s X handle wrote “KARMA”.

The case stems from alleged remarks made by Navika during a Newshour broadcast in January 2020, which the complainant alleged were defamatory and based on a distortion of the Mumbai Police chargesheet in the alleged TRP scam.

ARG Outlier, represented by Advocate Ayush Jindal, has accused Kumar of making “a series of defamatory and unsubstantiated statements” against Goswami during the January 18, 2020, 9 pm broadcast. According to the complaint, these remarks, coupled with the alleged misrepresentation of the chargesheet, were “designed to malign” Goswami.

On Wednesday, ACJM Siddhant Sihag of Patiala House Courts reportedly passed the order under Section 225 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, which empowers a magistrate to defer issuance of summons or warrants against an accused residing outside the court’s jurisdiction. 

The court has listed the matter for further hearing on February 26, 2026.
