Chinki Sinha quits as Outlook editor

Chinki Sinha, the first woman to head Outlook’s editorial team in 26 years, has quit as the outlet’s editor, Newslaundry has learnt.

Sinha had earlier worked with Open magazine, India Today and the Indian Express and written for publications such as BBC News and Al Jazeera.

Newslaundry had last year detailed the story of how a bold magazine lost its bite. Once a bastion of investigative journalism, Outlook had undergone a striking transformation. Read the report here, based on conversations with many staff members and an analysis of past coverage.

In 2021, Newslaundry had reported on how Outlook editor Ruben Banerjee had gone “on leave for a month”. The email was prosaic enough, but the move was seen as Banerjee’s exit from the group.

At the time, a source at the group told Newslaundry: “He was not asked to go on leave but the editor was being undermined by the management for quite some time...Informally, we know that this was his last day in office. Ruben has been facing a lot of pressure from the management lately.”
