‘They’re playing with faith’: Complainant claims Ram Temple SIT is an eyewash

The controversy surrounding the alleged embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya continues to deepen.

Santosh Dubey, a Hindutva leader associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, has gone on the offensive against senior officials of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Dubey tells Newslaundry, “These individuals were entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the Ram Temple and the faith of the devotees; instead, they are the ones who have looted the temple.”

He adds, “They are all thieves. I lodged a complaint with the police and subsequently visited the SP’s (Superintendent of Police) office. However, they have not registered an FIR based on my complaint. The people associated with the Trust are very powerful, but I will not let them off the hook this time. I will take the matter to court. They are playing with the faith of crores of Ram devotees.”

Dubey alleges that offerings and valuables have been stolen from the temple and holds Champat Rai (General Secretary of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust), Trustee Anil Mishra, Gopal Rao (who oversees operations), and Trust employee Ram Shankar Yadav responsible.

Amidst these allegations, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT has already submitted its preliminary report to the government.

All eyes are now fixed on what the investigation reveals and whether the allegations can be proven. However, Dubey maintains that the SIT will achieve nothing; he believes it will merely engage in a cover-up. He even claims that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath “wants to take action, but there is pressure on him too”, yet asserts that while powerful figures might be shielded, he is determined to pursue the case in court.
