‘A journalist only until I’m lathi-charged’: Meet the content creators behind Delhi’s protest videos
On October 10, as protesters gathered in central Delhi, Newslaundry turned the camera away from the protest itself and towards the people who bring it to your social media feeds – content creators.
We follow a group of independent creators as they hurry through cordoned-off streets to reach the protest site.
Some call themselves journalists, others “learning journalists,” and the rest, simply citizens. One vlogger says he earns only a few thousand rupees a month from his videos, while another takes delivery work to fund his equipment. They talk about where content creation ends and journalism begins, why they believe mainstream media is failing at its job, and how, as a result, they have to take up the mantle of documenting events.
