The Coldplay concert might get cancelled, as Congress claims the gig is a poll gimmick.
Fans of Coldplay who were debating auctioning their kidneys to afford tickets for the British band’s November 19th Mumbai concert. We have bad news for you- the gig might be cancelled or postponed till 2017 because the Congress claims that the State Government is trying to favour the BJP-led Maharashtra government by allowing them to perform.
Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam said in a letter to the State Election Commissioner JS Saharia that since the state government has been barred from officially organising events that can lure voters. “This is a violation of the election code. The government is doing it to impress voters ahead of the BMC polls” he said.
The decision of the Global Citizen Movement, an NGO, to give away free tickets to fans who completed the festival’s action campaigns, did not sit well with the Congress president. “Does anyone know how many tickets are being sold and how many being given free? Has any audit been done for the event?” he asked.
Niranjan Shetty, chief spokesperson for BJP Mumbai was reported as saying “The Congress has no important issue to raise hence such futile attempts are being made by them. It’s foolish to think that a music concert can influence voters.”
