Here’s how newspapers reported on Akhilesh Yadav getting the cycle
In a coup of sorts, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav got the Samajwadi Party bicycle symbol last evening. The Election Commission applied the test of majority to award the Akhilesh-led faction the poll symbol. This was of course an opportune time for mediawallahs to put on their punning hats and newspaper front pages today are testament to it.
For the English dailies, cycle “spoke” seemed to have been a favourite. The Times of India and Indian Express went with that, while The Hindustan Times kept it staid with the “cycle race” phrase. The Telegraph, on the other hand, used Le Tour de France logo, replacing France with force.

NBT used Akhilesh’s nickname, Tipu, in the headline with a cartoon using the “hanikarak bapu” line.

The paper has Akhilesh posing with a cycle and went with the dull ‘cycle race’ analogy.
