Donkey barred from filing candidature in UP
Gardabh Singh Yadav’s political ambitions have been dashed and at least we at Newslaundry are heartbroken. The chief ministerial candidate for the Bahujan Vijay Party has been barred from filing his nomination. Reason? He’s a donkey.
BVP’s national president Keshav Chandra said that Yadav the donkey was his party’s candidate for CM as a protest. He said the electoral system allows far more unsuitable people to stand for elections and the top post in Uttar Pradesh. Considering some of the comments that have been made by candidates on their campaigns, we’ve got to agree with Chandra that Yadav may well be a more polite candidate and certainly more of a looker.
Gardabh Singh Yadav is not the first donkey to feature in the upcoming UP elections. Devi Ram Prajapati, an independent candidate from Dadri, came on a donkey to file his nomination papers on Monday. Like Yadav, Prajapati’s donkey was also barred entry. Evidently, elections in UP are not donkey work.
