Jaitley demands Rs. 10 crores in damages, again

Union Minister Arun Jaitley, today, filed a second defamation suit against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, at the Delhi High Court, seeking Rs. 10 crores in damages.

The suit was filed over the usage of an inappropriate word by Kejriwal’s counsel Ram Jethmalani, who described Jaitley as a ‘crook,’ during court proceedings last week.

During the hearing of a suit, Jethmalani had exclaimed: “He (Jaitley) is a crook and I will show this.” While Jaitley expressed strong objections to the statement, he also warned that he would file a second defamation suit if the word had been used at the behest of Jethmalani’s client, which was affirmed by the latter.

This adds to the ongoing defamation suit that Jaitley had earlier filed against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders—Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpai—after they had accused him of misappropriation and mismanagement of funds during his tenure as President of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). In that suit, too, Jaitley has demanded Rs. 10 crores in damages.
