Police offers reward for ‘credible information’ in Faridabad lynching

On Sunday, the Haryana Railway Police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for “credible information” in connection with the lynching of 15-year-old Junaid last week. The police had arrested six people in connection with the murder but let them off after concluding that they were innocent.

The police is trying to recreate the entire sequence of events by talking to the passengers, Indian Express reported. “Anyone who can give any information related to the event and can provide us with any photographs or videos of the same will receive a reward of Rs 1 lakh,” said Haryana Railway Superintendent of Police, Kamaldeep Goyal. While four teams have been formed to investigate the matter, the police is still on the lookout for the weapon that was used to commit the crime.

Junaid was on his way to Faridabad’s Ballabgarh town from Delhi after Eid shopping. He had other friends and relatives with him who were also injured in the incident. The villagers of Khandawli in Ballabgarh have demanded reassurance from the central and the state government. They want to be assured that justice would be done and that such incidents would never be repeated. However, no one from the state or the Centre has visited the village yet.

“When they want votes, everyone comes running. But when something like this happens, not one person from central or state government has come to offer comfort or reassurance. Not one senior minister has spoken or expressed remorse about the incident publicly,” Junaid’s father, Jalaluddin was quoted as saying.

As of now, Communist Party of India (Marxist) members Brinda Karat and Mohammad Salim have visited the family besides Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Tek Chand.
