Major Leetul Gogoi found guilty in Srinagar hotel case

Major Leetul Gogoi has been found guilty in the Srinagar hotel case. The Army’s Court of Inquiry on Monday initiated disciplinary action against Major Gogoi. The court held him accountable for “fraternising with locals inspite of instructions to the contrary and for being away from the place of duty while in operational area”.

On May 23, Srinagar police held Major Gogoi, his driver and a Kashmiri girl from Hotel Grand Mamta, Dalgate, when the hotel staff reported to the police that the officer and his driver were creating a ruckus in the hotel lobby. The Army officer had been posing as a businessman from Assam and had booked a room for 24 hours. Citing hotel rules, the staff refused entry to the Kashmiri girl because she was a local. This led to an altercation in which the driver of the officer also joined in.
